Robert Beaser was born May 29, 1954 in Boston, Massachusetts. One of the most accomplished creative musicians of his generation, Beaser’s music has been performed and commissioned by major orchestras, conductors, ensembles
and performers worldwide. Beaser studied literature, political philosophy and music at Yale. Cited by the New York Times in the early 1980’s as a “New Tonalist”, his works defy categorization, and chart their own unique trajectories through a wide range of media. He is recipient of numerous major awards and honors including a Grammy Nomination, an Emmy Award, Guggenheim and Fulbright Fellowships, and The Rome Prize, from the American Academy in Rome. In 2004 he was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He is the Artistic Director Laureate of the American Composers Orchestra, and, since 1993 Chairman of the Composition Department at the Juilliard School in New York City.
