Hailed by the Financial Times as the "city's most innovative musical experience", The Intimacy of Creativity returns to Hong Kong 21 April – 4 May, 2014 for its exciting fourth season!

Selected composers will present and revise their chamber music compositions after in-depth discussions between composers and performers during on-campus Open Discussions. The revised compositions will be formally presented at Preview Concerts at the Lo Ka Chung Building on the Lee Shau Kee Campus of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and World Premiere Concerts at the Hong Kong City Hall Theatre.

Artistic Director and internationally-renowned composer, conductor, and pianist, Bright Sheng, will be joined by Distinguished Guest Artist, renowned cellist, and Rostropovich International Competition Winner, Gary Hoffman; Distinguished Guest Composer/Artist and Artistic Director of the American Composers Orchestra, Derek Bermel; Distinguished Guest Composer and Vice President of the Central Conservatory of Music, Xiaogang Ye; Special Guest Artist, internationally acclaimed violin virtuoso Dan Zhu; Ensemble-in-Residence, The Tanglewood New Fromm Players; and Guest Artist and noted contemporary music pianist, Nolan Pearson; noted violist, William Lane; along with other Guest Artists.

Up to six Composer Fellows between the ages of 25 and 35 will be selected to participate. One or two participating composers may be offered a one-year renewable position at HKUST as Composer-in-Residence/Visiting Scholar in the Division of Humanities.

The Intimacy of Creativity is very pleased to announce a collaboration with The Banff Centre of Canada, one of the most important and largest arts centers in the world. One featured work of an IC2014 Composer Fellow will be selected via audience vote at our World Premiere Concerts to be featured at The Banff Centre. The selected composer will be invited to visit the Centre from 8-18 July, 2014, under the guidance of IC Artistic Director Bright Sheng, who will be the Centre's 2014 Composer-in-Residence.

The Intimacy of Creativity 2014 is presented by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with HKUST School of Humanities and Social Science and HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study, as part of the HKUST Music Alive! concert series. The IC2014 media partner is Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK). Venue and ticketing sponsorship is provided by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD).
