Dan Zhu is widely recognized as one of the finest Chinese musicians on the international stage today, praised as "an artist of affecting humility and beautiful tone production" by The Strad magazine, performing worldwide in North America, Europe, and Asia. His recent triumphant performance with the Boston Symphony and Maestro Christoph Eschenbach at the Tanglewood Festival has been raved by the critics as "truly brilliant, compelling, and polished". He has appeared with many orchestras under the direction of Maestros Philippe Entremont, Gianandrea Noseda, Krzysztof Penderecki, Long Yu among others, and has been invited to perform and give master classes at renown festivals, such as Salzburg Festspiele, Tanglewood, Marlboro, Menton, Schleiswig-Holstein, Kuhmo, Prades-Casals, Ravinia, and Spoleto.

Dan Zhu's recent and upcoming season highlights includes concerto appearances with Maestro Zubin Mehta and the Orchestra Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (Korngold); with the National Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Christoph Eschenbach in Washington, D.C. and on tour (Mozart); with Camerata Salzburg at the Salzburg Festspiele; with the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra; and orchestras of Beijing, Belgrade, Paris, Netherlands, Vancouver, etc. Recital collaborations with pianist Michel Dalberto in Russia; with Eschenbach in Germany; with Paavali Jumppanen at the NCPA in Beijing and at the Mehli Mehta Foundation in Mumbai. Other duo appearances with Lang Lang, Philippe Entremont, Peter Frankl, Tzimon Barto, KunWoo Paik, etc.

A native of Beijing, he made his first public appearance at age nine, performing Mendelssohn's violin concerto with the China Youth Chamber Orchestra. He entered the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing at age 12 and at 16 he was awarded full scholarship to study with Lucie Robert by the Mannes College of Music in New York, and made his Carnegie Hall debut with Tchaikovsky violin concerto at 18. He has won several prestigious competitions, including Brussels' Queen Elisabeth, and the Montreal, Sendai and China international competitions.
