Nolan Pearson, who has been praised by the New York Times as a "high-energy pianist" who brings "beauty and cohesiveness" to his interpretations of new music, is a widely active young musician. He has appeared as soloist under conductors including Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Stefan Asbury, Bridget Reischl and Robert Hasty. As chamber musician, recent performances include with Chicago Pro Musica, soprano Lucy Shelton, the Mark Morris Dance Group, at the International Beethoven Festival and on the Kennedy Center's Millenium Stage. Mr. Pearson was the original pianist of the critically acclaimed New Fromm Players at Tanglewood in 2010 and 2011, at which he also performed in Elliot Carter's Centenary Celebration in 2008. He has commissioned several solo piano pieces and has also premiered works by Joseph Schwantner, Charles Wuorinen, George Flynn, and Shawn Allison. A winner of major grants including the 2012 Claire Rosen and Samuel Edes Foundation Prize for Emerging Artists and the 2008 Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship, he also won the 2009 Henri Kohn Award, the 2008 Lindsay Competition, and Concerto Competitions while at Oberlin Conservatory and Northwestern University. He studied with Ursula Oppens, Robert Shannon, and with Peter Serkin and Stephen Drury at Tanglewood. Mr. Pearson also holds a degree in biochemistry and is currently an Instructor at Northwestern University.
