Janko Vasiljević (1985) is a Serbian composer born in Paris (France). He started to play piano and compose at the age of eleven. Subsequently, he studied music theory before entering University of Arts in Belgrade where he obtained Master degree in Music Composition in the class of renowned Serbian composer Isidora Žebeljan. He worked as a piano teacher and pianist accompanist in several music schools. For two years he played in a Cuban band 'Salsa y Punto' specialized in Afro-Caribbean music. While living and working as a diving instructor in Egypt, Janko got in touch with Arabic music, which remains to be a big source of inspiration for him besides Serbian ethnic music with its irregular time signatures and Cuban music with its intricate rhythms. His compositions, which encompass the range from solo instrument to symphonic orchestra, were broadcasted on Serbian radio stations and played in many festivals. Janko speaks Serbian, English, French and Spanish. Currently he is working as a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade.
