A CV, along with scores AND parts of up to three chamber works should be sent as PDF files. Works should be approximately ten minutes in duration for up to five performers drawn from the following instrumentation: clarinet, string quartet, double bass, and piano.

Recordings (if available) of submitted works should be sent as MP3 files.

All files should be sent in one e-mail (30MB limit) to: info@ic.shss.ust.hk by Friday 5 October, 2012.

INTRODUCTION TO IC2013

The Intimacy of Creativity, the internationally-acclaimed, annual two-week Partnership devoted to promoting an intimate dialogue between composers and performers hosted by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), returns to Hong Kong 22 April – 5 May, 2013 for its exciting third season. Selected composers will present and revise their chamber music compositions after in-depth discussions between composers and performers during on-campus Open Discussions. The revised compositions will be formally presented at Preview Concerts at the Tsang Shiu Tim Art Hall on the campus of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and World Premiere Concerts at the Hong Kong City Hall Theatre.

Artistic Director and internationally-renowned composer, conductor, and pianist, Bright Sheng, will be joined by Distinguished Guest Artist/Composer and 2002 MacArthur "Genius" Award-winning double-bassist, Edgar Meyer; Distinguished Guest Artist and Gramophone's Record of the Year-winning violinist, Cho-Liang Lin, presented in collaboration with the Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival and Premiere Performances; along with other Distinguished Guests and Guest Artists.

IC2013 CALL FOR SCORES GUIDELINES

Eligibility
Up to six emerging composers between the age of 25 and 35 will be selected to participate in two weeks of Open Discussions, Preview Concerts, and World Premiere Concerts of their work. Round-trip airfare, accommodations and a per diem will be provided to the composers by the Partnership. Composers applying for the Partnership MUST be comfortable having their compositions discussed and be willing to make necessary revisions before the final public concert presentations.
Composers-in-Residence
One or two participating composers may be offered a one-year renewable position at HKUST as Composer-in-Residence/Lecturer I in the Division of Humanities for the 2013-2014 academic year.
Compositions
Each composer may submit up to three chamber music compositions for consideration, but only one work from each composer will be selected and presented. Works should be approximately 10 minutes in duration, for up to five performers drawing from the following instrumentation: clarinet, string quartet, double bass, and piano. Each submission should include a hard copy and soft copy (in PDF format on an accompanying CD) of the score and a set of professionally prepared parts for each work submitted, along with a CV, including date of birth and names and contact information for two professional references. Though not necessary, the composer may also send accompanying performance recordings of the works submitted, if available (CD format is preferred).
