British violist Sophie Stanley has performed extensively in Europe, USA and Asia, under conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Lorin Maazel, Sir Roger Norrington, Vladimir Jurowski, Edward Gardner and Oliver Knussen. She has performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, English National Opera and English Touring Opera, and recently played for a BBC documentary about Gustav Holst.

Sophie won first prize at the Gerard Heller and Rosemary Rapaport String Quartet Competition, and has received awards from the Countess of Munster and Leverhulme Orchestral Trusts. As a chamber musician she has performed with Steven Kovacevich, Gordan Nikolitch, Natalie Clein and Jennifer Stumm, and she made her Wigmore Hall debut in 2009. She recently played at the Cadogan Hall as part of the 'Rising Stars' concert series.

Graduating with first class honors from London's Royal College of Music, and with distinction in her Postgraduate Diploma, Sophie received tuition from Simon Rowland-Jones, Andriy Viytovych, Lawrence Power and Pinchas Zuckerman. She is currently living in Hong Kong, where she is an Instructional Assistant for music courses at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She plays regularly with the Hong Kong City Chamber Orchestra, recently touring to Beijing to perform at the Forbidden City Concert Hall.
