Hailed "a Miracle" by GRAMOPHONE and "a Master of subtle transition" by The STRAD, Trey enthralls audiences with his virtuoso playing that combines intellectual sophistication with emotional depth and sensitivity. His concerto debut at Carnegie Hall won him a standing ovation with the NEW YORK TIMES declaring him "the excellent cellist… with enveloping richness and lyrical sensitivity." In his collaboration with the Netherlands Philharmonic at the Royal Concertgebouw Hall, Trey again received a standing ovation with the critics praising him a "Star Musician."

This season will see Trey's debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra under maestro Lorin Maazel, re-engagements with the Munich Chamber Orchestra, Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra for the world premiere of 'Dream of the Red Chamber Suites' (a project instigated by Trey), amongst others.

Over the 2011/2012 New Year period, Trey made his debut with the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn at the Beethoven Hall, which was immediately followed by a sold out six-city tour of China. The concerts were highly praised, with the critic calling his performance in Bonn, "exceptionally lively," "exciting," and with "inspired singing." Last season, Trey appeared on Phoenix Television's global live broadcast concert with the China Symphony Orchestra to an audience of millions, as well as a concert initiated by United Nations Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon at the United Nations General Assembly Hall, alongside maestros Tan Dun, Lu Jia, and coloratura soprano Sumi Jo.

Trey is a laureate of major international competitions, including First Prize at the 2004 International Antonio Janigro Cello Competition, and major prizes at New York's Naumburg and Helsinki's Paulo International Competitions. He collaborates with esteemed composers and conductors such as Bright Sheng, Osmo Vanska, Jun Markl, Paul Daniel, Alexander Liebreich, and numerous orchestras, including the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the philharmonics of Netherlands, Slovenia, Zagreb, Hong Kong, China, symphony orchestras of the Romanian Radio and Israel, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Avanti!, Zagreb Soloists, and Northern Sinfornia.

Collaborating with EMI, Trey has released several albums which topped the classical charts and was enthusiastically received by audiences and critics alike. In addition, Trey can be heard as featured soloist on the original EMI-released sound track recording for the Germany-Taiwan-Hong Kong co-produced film "The Drummer," which was in competition at the Sundance Film Festival.

Trey has been lauded for his active promotion and performances of contemporary music, with Finland's most influential newspaper, the Helsingin Sanomat, declaring him a "great talent for understanding the language of modern music, its gestures and meanings."

As a pioneer in the promotion of chamber music in China, Trey founded the Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival. In addition, he is a regular guest artist at the Kuhmo Festival and will make his debut at the Helsinki Spring Light Festival in 2012. Among the artists with whom he collaborates are pianists Ingrid Fliter, Peter Yablonsky, violinist Pekka Kuusisto, violist Vladimir Mendelssohn, and the Borodin and Meta4 quartets.

Trey has been featured by the FINANCIAL TIMES, CNN, China's national television CCTV, and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK)'s acclaimed documentary "Outstanding Young Chinese Musicians." In 2009, Italy's foremost newspaper, IL CORRIERE DELLA SERA, heralded Trey as one of China's four classical music "Golden Boys & Girls."

Born in Hong Kong, Trey attended Juilliard's Pre-College Division, Harvard University (where he received his Bachelor of Economics), the New England Conservatory, Madrid's Reina Sofia Escuela de Musica, and the Cologne Musikhochschule. Throughout his career, Trey has been guided and influenced by cellists Frans Helmerson, Laurence Lesser, Bernard Greenhouse, and Ardyth Alton.

In honor of Trey for his musical achievements, two music scholarships have been established under his name at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, one of Asia's premiere musical institutions. In addition, Trey was awarded "Leader of the Year" by the Asian media conglomerate Sing Tao Media Group, presented to him by maestro Edo de Waart, and the Elle Style Award for "Musician of the Year."

To help support musical development in his hometown of Hong Kong, Trey is Artistic Director of Musicus Society, which aims to promote cross-cultural collaborations and local music education.

Trey is currently based in Berlin, Germany.
